Seline's privacy policy

Last updated on Feb 14, 2024

Seline takes and shares as little data as possible. In short:

  • We do not set cookies to our clients’ visitors’ browsers.
  • We do not store any personal data by default, and our clients can send it to us only if they choose to.
  • We do not share any tracked visitor data with third parties at all.
  • We only share as minimal client data with as few third parties as possible, such as email info for transactional emails or our payment processor.
  • We do not sell or monetize any information.

Tracked visitors data

Below is the full list of information that gets saved at our databases.

NameDescription
🔒 Unique hashCalculated using the following hash function hash(domain, ipAddress, userAgent, dailySalt). Daily salts are unique to each domain, and are renewed daily. This allows us to calculate daily unique visits count without storing cookies.
🏳️ CountryTaken from Cloudflare CF-IPCountry headers. We do not use IP adresses for any sort of lookups and we never store them in our databases.
🖥️ User agentWe only parse visitor's browser, operating system and device type information, without storing the full string.
🔗 HTTP ReferrerWe store the referrer website, if available.
🏷️ UTM sourcesWe store all the UTM tracking data, if available.
👀 Page viewsWe track all visitors' page views.

Key takeway - no private data gets saved on our servers.

The unique hash approach is not new and is being implemented by many services as an alternative to identification using cookies. Firstly, it doesn't require you to set third-party cookies to your visitors' browsers, which is illegal without their consent. Secondly, it performs better since many people have their cookies blocked.

We rotate dailySalt daily for each of our clients' domains, permanently deleting the previous one. This approach makes it impossible to reverse-engineer the IP address and User Agent from past day's hashes.

We are always happy to share more technical and logical details about how we work with data, so please reach out if you or your legal team have any questions.

Visitors profiles

Seline's clients can also fill their visitors' profiles with custom data, such as name, email, address, IP address, and other sensitive information. In this case Seline acts as a sub-processor, and our clients are responsible to their visitors for what personal data they share with us. Seline processes and stores this data in a fully secure manner and does not share it with any third-party services.

Seline's clients data

We collect and use as little information from our clients as necessary to be operational.

  • An email address is needed in order to sign up and use Seline. We only send essential messages, such as transactional emails or important product updates.
  • We share clients' email addresses with Postmark, our transactional email service, and Stripe, our payment provider. Both of these services are privacy-focused and compliant with all legal regulations.
  • Our servers and databases are hosted in the European Union, using service providers that are fully secure. We use Hetzner for our API and ClickHouse database, and Neon for the Postgres database.
  • The only cookie we store is a first-party session cookie that remembers your login status. This cookie can be deleted at any time.
